My Ten Childhood Favorites Books (in no particular order)

I have loved books since I was really small. And now that I have a child of my own, I'm back to reading those books I loved so much when I was young (along with some new ones).

I devoured books when I was younger and had tons of favorites so this is kind of hard for me! Be warned though, there will be a lot of Enid Blyton ones on here!

1. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

These are wonderful books depicting life in the United States during the mid-1800's. There are very striking moments that you will never forget, such as when they were building their cabin in Kansas and she could hear wolves sniffing outside the log. The only thing keeping them safe was their dog guarding the entry that didn't have a door yet.

Yes, Little House on The Prairie! I loved how cozy the house was; and I would have loved to romp around in all those grassy fields!

Good stories for any age.

2. Famous Five by Enid Blyton

I have the Famous Five to thank for introducing me to reading. I love this series, it’s my all time favourite and hence the reason I’ve been trying to find and buy all 21 books. I think I have roughly around 8 or 9 of them, so I’ll be looking for the rest of the titles. I always loved their adventures and the massive amounts of food they ate! Some of my favourites in the series include: Five Go To Smuggler’s Top, Five Go On A Hike Together, Five have Plenty of Fun, Five on Finniston Farm and Five Go To Demon’s Rocks. As always George will be my favourite character from the five, but I still have a soft spot for Julian.

3. Malory Towers by Enid Blyton

 

The Malory towers books written by Enid Blyton follow a young girl called Darrell Rivers as she grows up through the series in her dear school well Malory Towers. This series definitely made boarding school out to be a fun place with their tricks on teachers, friendships and of course the awesome Lacrosse games! My favourite characters in the series were Darrell and Felicity Rivers, Alicia Johnson, Bill Richardson

A truly magical series recommended to all those who enjoy school stories that aren't about completely perfect dolls. Recommended to people of any age!

4. The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan

If you know anything about Greek mythology, you'll know that their gods had a tendency to produce demigod kids by the dozen. And the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series is all about a boy who discovers that he's the offspring of a god, and the other demi-god kids that he gets to know at a very, very special camp. Rick Riordan spins a clever fast-moving adventure that mines ancient mythology and gives it a modern spin.

5.Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

My mother bought me this book when I was child, to introduce classics into my early reading pool.Oliver Twist is a fantastic tale! Dickens' second novel, after the episodic Pickwick Papers, Oliver Twist was written by the young writer/editor as a dark, moralistic tale in conjunction with the lighter and farcical tale. It's a fascinating picture of the seedy underbelly of London of that time, and of the hypo-critic and corrupt Victorian society that Dickens lived in. The tale of both repentant and unrepentant criminals is interesting, although too based on coincidence, and also strangely Oliver himself hardly appears in the second half!

6. The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas

Another classics bought by my mother to introduce classic readings during my early years.This book was written by French author Alexandre Dumas père in 1844. It's quite a long story: paperback versions have over 400 pages. Dumas has written two sequels to this book: 'Twenty years later' (1845) and 'The vicomte de Bragelonne' (1847).

7. Harry Potter Series by J.K.Rowling

I hate to think what my childhood would have been like without Harry Potter. It was responsible for helping me to re-discover my love for reading. I have nothing but love for this series. I loved everything about it and I don’t think anyone who loves HP has to explain themselves to anyone.

8. Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia) by C. S. Lewis

What can I add to the discussion of the Narnia books themselves? Come on – who wouldn’t want to visit Narnia? Filled with mystery and magic, and a benevolent talking lion to boot!

They're fantastic, and, as a long-time reader of Lewis's work, all I can say is that it's heartening to see that new generations are continuing to discover how wonderful the Chronicles of Narnia are

9. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

I would love to visit the Garden from The Secret Garden! :) How wonderful and beautiful it would be!

10. Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren

To my mind, Pippi Longstocking is perhaps the world's first child superhero. Able to lift strong policemen with her bare hands! Capable of climbing tall houses and trees with virtually no effort at all! Rescuing children from burning buildings and adults from snobby talk!
Ah, there are so many great books of my childhood that I couldn't put on here. Just have to give a shoutout to RL Stine--Goosebumps, Fear Street, etc.

I’ve always been an avid reader, so this list was quite easy to make- and there are so many more that I could talk about! It’s so fun to revisit all of these stories that I grew up with. Maybe I’ll do a larger post on it in the future?

Kenapa memutuskan menjadi blogger buku?

Tertarik membuat blog buku karena suka membaca dan ingin share dengan orang - orang dengan kesukaan yang sama. 

Siapa pengarang favorit kakak dan alasan, sekaligus buku favorit dari pengarang tersebut?

Genre fantasi: Rick Riordan buku favorit Percy Jackson the series. Alasan karena saya penggemar fantasi, mitologi terutama Yunani Mesir dan Romawi Rick Riordan sendiri banyak memberi pengetahuan baru mitologi Yunani. Mesir dan Romawi.

Genre misteri: Agatha Christie, sampai saat ini belum ada yang bisa menandingi beliau dalam genre misteri.

Buku favorit : Pembunuhan di Mesopotamia

Berapa lama yang dibutuhkan untuk membaca dan review buku?

Waktu yang diperlukan untuk membaca buku rata-rata satu jam satu buku bahasa Indonesia. Kalau berbahasa Inggris bisa 3 sampai 4 jam, tergantung jenis bukunya. Buku Ladies' Paradise Zola bisa selesai dalam waktu 4 jam.

Rekor baca terlama 3 hari buku The Sound and The Fury karena termasuk buku sulit. Saya sendiri menargetkan 1 buku sehari. Cuma mengingat timbunan dan secara kebetulan punya waktu luang lebih banyak pasca PHK di salah satu RS jadi bisa membaca lebih banyak.

Untuk membuat review saya selalu mengusahakan membuat 1 review per hari, biasanya langsung setelah kelar membaca. Tapi banyak juga sih hutang buku yang belum di Review.

Saat ini, ebook sedang cukup populer. Apa Kakak termasuk yang suka atau tidak suka baca ebook?

Mengenai ebook, saya juga pembaca ebook. Saya punya: 
A. Kindle Touch yang menyimpan 1987 buku. Belum semua sempat dibaca, saya membaca ebook terutama jika ke luar kota karena alasan kepraktisan. Biasanya saya download di netgalley atau dari Gutenberg Project.
B. Aplikasi iBook di iPhone untuk membaca buku berekstensi epub yang tidak bisa dibaca di Kindle.

Tapi rasa membaca ebook ga sama dengan buku cetak. Apalagi baca di iPhone mata lekas lelah. Makanya sehari-hari saya lebih banyak membaca buku cetak. #meliriktimbunan

Selain itu, saat ini juga penulis sudah 'terjangkau' dengan pembaca. Apa menurut Kakak adalah penting untuk penulis menjalin hubungan baik dengan pembaca atau sebenarnya itu bisa dipisahkan?

Saya lebih seneng penulis yang lebih dekat ke pembaca.

Sampai sekarang saya jarang menilai sangat jelek suatu buku. Saya takut tulisan saya membuat bukunya kurang laku dan saya sadar diri juga belum tentu saya mampu menulis buku.

Menurut saya ada baiknya jika kita menemukan kelemahan waktu membaca buku dapat disampaikan langsung pada penulis atau penerbitnya. Mungkin si penulis berbaik hati menerima kritik dan saran. Ya, sekaligus menghargai keberhasilan si penulis menerbitkan buku. Bisa menerbitkan buku itu prestasi lho...
