Deadline Pressure

This year, I participate in NaNoWriMo or National Writing Month. I knew about it from writing tips, it said you have to participate in NaNoWriMo to improve your writing skills. The idea is simple, to write at least 50,000 words, start from 1st of November and you have to upload it before the deadline, 30th of November. You can claim your winning from 25th, though.

Participating in NaNoWriMo means you have to write at least 1,667 words per day. You can write more or less, no one to judge but your self. The rewards was "only" the winning badge.

The other event that I love to join was FF2in1 that held by NulisBuku, a online self-publishing in my country. The idea is, they will give a theme, and we have 30 minutes to made flash fiction based on theme that given. Usually, this event was start at 21.00 and they would give 2 themes per day, that's why it was called FF2in1 or flash fiction 2 in 1. Two flash fiction in one hour.

The reward was one book that you could pick by your self. One book that published by NulisBuku. The winner was chosen by NulisBuku administrator and it would be only one winner per day.

What I want to say is, sometimes when we write, we always looking for excuses. We have so many ideas, words in our head. And, where are they? Still in your head? When will you write them?

I have to admit, just like people in common, I also like to procrastinate, especially when it was about writing. I wait until I have good mood, looking for the right time, need more idea, and so on.

I follow NulisBuku on twitter and everyday, they keep asking the same question to their follower, "Have you write today?"

As writer, and as your potential writing buddy, I suggest you to looking for event, competition or anything else with deadline to improve your writing skills. Come on, admit it, deadline always help you to improve your skills, right?

We would work our paper near the deadline though we have more than enough time to prepare. Deadline help you to decide, when to start. And knowing your time was short, you would make it worth. You have to.

I knew that not all of us like to work under pressure. I also believe that writing is a will, you do it for your own sake, to fulfill your self, pursue your dreams, and else. It was about your self, first. But, if you really love to write, won't you try to do anything, to make it better?

It just my opinion. You like it or not, your choice.

Cheers!

:D
